Soeishi no Kon Sho

添石の棍小

Soeishi no Kon Sho (or 添石の棍小 in Japanese) is a Ryukyu Kobujutsu Bo Kata. The first part of its name – Soeishi ( 添石 ) – was the last name of the 18th century Okinawan Bōjutsu master Soeishi Uēkata (also known as Ryōtoku), who was the military arts instructor of the king of Ryūkyū. This version of this Bo Kata coming from him is named ‘Sho’ (or 小 in Japanese), which means ‘small’. In the video embedded below (recorded on 5 February 2024), budoka Johan Oldenkamp, a former national champion from the Netherlands, performs this ‘small version of Master Soeishi’s Bo Kata’.
